At The Flashpoint For Increasing Violence: Love And Terror In The Middle East
Paris, France, August 3, 2014 – Major conflict between Israel and its neighbors indicate movement towards all-out war. Author and peace activist Frank Romano is in the thick of it. His memoir Love and Terror in the Middle East (AB Film Publishing) is now available in its 4th edition, with an entire new chapter dedicated to a recent harrowing event in Jenin, West Bank, when Romano was trapped in the midst of rioting Palestinians following the killing of a Palestinian youth by Israeli soldiers.
Growing tension among Muslims, Jews and Christians emphasizes the importance of his interfaith work in Israel and Palestine. Love and Terror reads like a bestselling novel, dramatically capturing his efforts to promote understanding, communication and cooperation. Romano has faced hostility from all sides as he moved through a maze of walls and checkpoints in Israel and the West Bank to lead interfaith activities aimed at easing the region’s bloody path to peace.
The personal cost to Romano includes the tragic murder of a peace activist friend, an Israeli Jew, in the West Bank. Another friend, also an interfaith peace activist, was murdered in Jerusalem. In addition, Frank’s efforts in the region have cost him a marriage, another long romantic relationship and close contact with his children.
Frank Romano earned a PhD at University of Paris I, Panthéon Sorbonne, and a JD at Golden Gate University, Faculty of Law, San Francisco. He is a Maître de conférences (assistant tenured professor) at the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense in the Anglo-American Literature and Civilization Department, an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University, Faculty of Law and a member of the California and Marseille Bars.
At present, he teaches law, literature, history and philosophy of law and practices law in France and in the United States. Romano actively organizes and participates in interfaith events involving Jews, Muslims, Christians and people of other faiths in Israel and Palestine.
In 2013, Dr. Romano published the 4th edition of Storm Over Morocco (AB Film Publishing), available online everywhere. Dans l’ombre du muezzin (In the Shadow of the Muezzin), a translation of Storm Over Morocco, was published in French by L’Harmattan in April, 2014. He is also the author of a book of poems entitled Crossing Over published by World Audience, Inc. He has written many articles published in Europe and in the United States where he is often invited to speak at conferences.

Rosa Syed: “extraordinary….provides a profound insight into the relations of Jews, Muslims, & Christians in the Middle East.…A magnificent book on the current events and the road to peace….”
Mark Russell Bell: “Reading Frank Romano’s memoirs, I was reminded that paths of spiritual discovery involve the intellect in relation to one’s dedicated research and contemplation….I also found myself acknowledging once again that the true ‘holy’ land in the transitory world we call Earth is not limited to any geographical area but is the condition where one recognizes that all people are members of the same vast family.”
